Christmas Bells

Preheat oven to 375◦

1/2 C. shortening
1/2 C. sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 C. flour
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt

Mix shortening, sugar, egg, & vanilla
Sift together flour, baking soda, and salt

Blend dry and wet ingredients together
Chill

Divide into 3 parts
Color 1 part green and 1 part red
Roll each colored dough into a tube shape
Set a bit of uncolored dough aside for clappers and divide rest of uncolored dough into 2 parts
Roll 1 part of uncolored dough around each tube, so you have two rolls when done
Pinch top of tube and flare bottom of tube to form into bell shape
Chill tubes
Then slice into 1/8″ cookies

Bake 8 – 10 minutes on ungreased sheet
